His gaze

His painting, figurative yet imbued with imagination, reflects an instinctive and spontaneous emotion in response to the landscapes around us. The material, generously applied to the canvas, expresses itself in a play of shadows and lights, leaving an essential space for his creativity. Over time, his work has slightly deconstructed, while retaining the figurative base that gives his canvases a very personal identity.

"It is reality that resembles my canvases and not the other way around"

Welcome to my studio

I primarily paint in my studio in Vern-sur-Seiche. I sometimes work outdoors, but the variations in light strongly influence my color choices and disrupt my creative balance. The studio, on the other hand, offers me a space of freedom and concentration, sheltered from the constraints of time and atmospheric changes.
My inspiration arises from both marine landscapes and urban atmospheres. These contrasting universes nourish my sensitivity and allow me to explore different dynamics of shapes and colors. I paint instinctively, driven by emotion and the memory of the moment. Interpretation, creativity, and spontaneity are the guiding principles that shape my approach and give birth to works where the material and gesture primarily convey an inner experience.

My technique

The photographer in full report, camera in hand

After having explored different painting techniques; acrylic, pastels, watercolor, among others, I have gradually found my balance with oil painting on canvas, which is now my preferred technique.
My favorite themes revolve around the landscapes of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, coastal areas, but also urban landscapes. Italy and New York are also among my sources of inspiration, for their lights, their atmospheres, and their unique energy.

My main tool is the painting knife, a spatula that I use like a trowel. This instrument allows me to extend the material, create flat areas, and layer the paint to give birth to new nuances and depths. I use knives of various sizes and shapes to draw, outline perspectives, and structure volumes. The gesture is both precise and spontaneous: each movement deposits the paint with intensity, shaping the surface as one sculpts a living material.
Through the accumulation of layers, the relief asserts itself and gives the work its strength and presence. This work on density and texture transforms the canvas into an almost sculptural space, where light reveals the power of color and gesture.
